NEAR NORTH • NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

NEAR NORTH CHAPTER’s mission is to pass on a legacy of cold water fisheries, including the unique landlocked salmon, through education and by working to improve and preserve the habitat for cold water species.

Their current project is Doran Creek which they have teamed up with several partners including Fisheries and Oceans Canada, to improve and restore the local cold water fishery. Locally teamed with the local conservation authority, their work includes physical stream restoration, instillation of sand traps and temperature monitoring. In addition our membership has taken an active role in educating and training themselves in stream restoration and rehabilitation.
