Bull troutLIFE HISTORY STRATEGIES OF BULL TROUT (SALVELINUS CONFLUENTUS) IN A RECENTLY DAMMED WATERSHED
(Will Warnock, Master’s Thesis, 2nd year funding)

Will Warnock’s Master’s project will assess the life history structuring of bull trout in river systems of the Oldman River drainage. Specific tests of genetic structuring and sub-structuring between rivers and life history strategy will take place. Otolith microchemistry will be used to determine lifelong migration histories of individual migrant bull trout. An integrative approach will be taken to determine overall population dynamics in the system with immediate and long-term conservation implications.

Will Warnock will utilize otolith chemical make-up to determine the life structure of bull trout in a recently dammed watershed (Oldman River watershed).

He is looking to study the life long migration patterns of this species in hopes to understand to implications of dams on their overall population dynamics.

His work will also investigate immediate and long term conservation implications.
