VANCOUVER ISLAND DOLLY VARDEN AND COASTAL CUTTHROAT TROUT RECOVERY PLAN
PUBLIC AWARENESS INITIATIVE

(Nanaimo Chapter)

On Vancouver Island, sea-run cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden char once were common in all watersheds that provided the right conditions for their reproduction and growth. Wild populations still exist in many parts of the Island, though their status is uncertain or unknown. Presently, stocks found on the east coast of the Island between Victoria and Campbell River are under intense pressure from urban development and accompanying water withdrawals and other impacts.

CCFund financing will allow a local artist to design and develop attractive educational signage for installation near high-use angling access areas. The signage will encourage fishers to protect our native wild trout and char, and the environs in which they live.
